LEARNING INTENTIONS: FANTASY NARRATIVE

We are learning:

  • To identify parts of the narrative structure
  • To plan effectively
  • To use dialogue in our writing
  • To identify and use aspects of the fantasy genre
  • To draft and proofread written work

Why:

  • To improve the effectiveness of our writing
  • To learn how to structure a narrative correctly
  • To develop effective planning skills
  • To better understand the fantasy genre

ACTIVITIES

Once you are ready to begin writing, work through the activities below.

Activity One: Planning your characters

Activity Two: Creating your digital story.

If you are struggling to get started, click on the link below and have a go at using some of the story prompts to practise writing fantasy:

Now, log on to Prezi and create your digital story. You MUST include at least two visual elements (either photo, diagram or video) as well as:

  • a hero / heroine
  • villain
  • setting description
  • orientation
  • complication
  • resolution.
  • You must also include a minimum of one original simile or metaphor.

Activity Three: Drafting and Proofreading
You will need to draft and proofread your story carefully before submitting it for assessment.  You MUST have someone else read over your story before it is submitted.  Click on the link below to access the peer editing sheet.  When this has been completed, show it to your teacher.
Activity Four: Extension Task
Once you have finished your fantasy narrative, you can complete the following activities around designing a book jacket for your story / or a class collection of fantasy stories.
